This project was my first project focusing on product design. The brief was to develop a product that could be operated with one arm and make everyday activities easier for people with disabilities. At the same time, the product should also provide a useful function for people without disabilities. I developed FaceMate, a flexible phone holder that allows a smartphone to be positioned freely in space. The idea is to make activities such as video calls or watching videos more convenient while keeping both hands free. I explored the concept through sketches and a series of simple prototypes, gradually refining the form and functionality. During the process, I simplified the construction and developed a detachable system that allows the arm to be used in different locations. The final prototype is made entirely from metal and consists of two connected arms with adjustable joints. A custom wall mount allows the arm to be attached and removed when needed. The entire construction was painted black to create a simple and minimal appearance. The project introduced me to the process of product design, from initial ideation and prototyping to developing and building a functional physical prototype. It also taught me the importance of continuously questioning and simplifying an initial idea throughout the design process.
