The Kölner Design Preis (KDP) is an annual award celebrating outstanding graduation projects from Cologne’s design universities. The project culminates in an award ceremony and exhibition at the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne (MAKK), presenting the work of nominated graduates to a wider audience.
As part of the 2023 edition, I worked in the Graphic Design & Animation team and continued developing the KDP’s visual identity. Building on the identity established in the previous year, I explored colour combinations, compositions and applications of the existing visual system and helped adapt it across different communication formats, including the main poster, social media, certificates and website banners.
In addition to the graphic design, I was involved in the planning and production of the event. This included supporting the jury process, coordinating the presentation spaces for the nominated projects, and helping with the setup and dismantling of the exhibition and award ceremony. Working across different teams gave me insight into the organisational and collaborative processes behind a large-scale design event.
The project was my first opportunity to work with a corporate identity in an event context, from developing visual applications to implementing the identity across different media. It strengthened my interest in visual identities, communication design and design in cultural contexts.
